Cast Iron Orange Glazed Cinnamon Rolls

There’s something about waking up on Christmas morning with the smell of cinnamon, sugar and spices in the air. Christmas Cinnamon Rolls have become a tradition for so many. These Orange Glazed Cinnamon Rolls.

Ingredients

Rolls

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for brushing on rolls)

Filling

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened or melted
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Glaze

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp chopped fresh rosemary (optional)

Instructions

Rolls

  • Warm milk in the microwave, then pour in a standing mixer. Sprinkle yeast on top. Let it stand for 10 minutes. Add eggs, butter, salt, sugar, all purpose and bread flours. Knead dough with a hook attachment for about 5 minutes. Cover the dough with a plastic wrap and let it rise for an hour. Place bowl in the refrigerator overnight.

    The next day, divide the dough in half. Sprinkle the counter with flour. Roll one half of the dough into a rectangle. Spread half of melted butter on top.
    In a bowl combine sugar, orange zest and cinnamon. Mix. Sprinkle evenly with half of the orange sugar filling. Roll up the dough on the short side. Use a sharp knife and cut the log into 7-8 slices. Add each roll to the cast iron pan. Roll out the second dough and repeat the process. Add the second set of rolls to the cast iron pan. Cover with a kitchen towel and Let them rise until the rolls have risen to twice their size.
    Brush rolls with heavy cream. Bake at 400 F for 20-25 minutes or until browned. Spoon on cream cheese glaze.

Glaze

  • In a bowl add cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange juice and rosemary. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth. Add more orange juice if a thinner consistency is wanted.
