This Halloween Themed Black Apple Pie is perfect! And so easy to make.

Just use your regular pie crust recipe, and add food grade activated charcoal to the flour. Mix everything together and you will get the black colored dough. Roll out the 2 disks as normal and add the pie filling.

Halloween Black Crust Apple Pie
Crust
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1-2 tbsp activated charcoal
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 sticks butter, cubed and frozen
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 6-8 tsp ice cold water
Filling
- 4-5 apples peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 tbsp flour
Crust

Combine flour, 1 tbsp charcoal, butter, shortening, salt in a food processor. Pulse. Add more charcoal if you want the crust darker. Pour in water until dough comes together. Shape into a disk. Wrap and place in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, divide dough into 2 pieces. Roll out one half and place in a pie dish. Roll out second half. Cut strips for a lattice crust.
Combine all ingredients for the filling in a bowl. Pour into bottom crust. Make a lattice crust with dough strips. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour
