How Often Do You Make Pancakes?
I love Buttermilk pancakes. It’s my favorite thing to have for breakfast. Growing up, during the week, breakfast was simple. A roll with butter or a bagel. But when Saturday came, my mom would always make pancakes for me. Pancakes and Saturday morning cartoons were the best two things about the weekends.
Now that I’m an adult, I’ve carried on the same tradition with my own kids. My son loves Saturday morning pancakes so much that I’ve tried to make something else, and he refused to eat it. Lol. I’ve always used the box mix. Never thought of trying it any other way. One Saturday, I went to the kitchen to start breakfast and realized that there was barely any mix left in the box. My son didn’t want anything else, and going to the store would take too long, so I went online to look for a good recipe. The first one I tried wasn’t very good. In fact, it took a couple of tries until I found the perfect buttermilk pancake recipe from scratch. And this is it.
Where Did The Recipe Originate?
This easy pancake recipe is an adaptation from Allrecipes, Buttermilk Pancakes II. The only thing different that I do is add vanilla extract. Vanilla makes everything better!
How Are They Made?
Put in the dry ingredients first. Then add the egg, vanilla and buttermilk. Now, I have to say, please use the buttermilk. Don’t use regular milk because you do not have any buttermilk in the house. Wait until you can get to the supermarket & buy the buttermilk. The pancakes will not taste the same without them. I’ve made from scratch pancakes using a recipe with only whole milk and they we flat and dry. Buttermilk is the key ingredient here.
After you add the buttermilk, add a tablespoon or so of whole milk. This will slightly thin the batter. The amount you use is based on how thick or thin you like your pancakes. I have a friend who likes hers like crepes, so she adds a lot of the whole milk to her pancakes.
This truly is the best pancake recipe from scratch I have ever used. I will never go back to the box mix. I did once and I instantly regretted it & threw it away. The fluffiness, and the soft texture make these pancakes absolutely delicious!
