I’ve wanted to try the pastries at Supermoon Bakehouse ever since I’ve seen countless posts on social media. They are known for their assortment of unique bi-colored croissants and pastries. So, when I was in the city the other day, I made sure to stop by to check it out. It sure did not disappoint!
The Supermoon Bakehouse is co-owned by Ry Stephen and Aron Tzimas, the same owners of Mr. Holmes Bakehouse in San Francisco, California, which they founded in 2014. They decided to open a location in NYC after the huge success of its West Coast counterpart.
There’s no large sign with the name of the bakery on the front. There is only an upside down neon smiley face synonymous with the bakery’s logo, so I knew I was in the right place. When you first walk in, sample pastries are all lined up on the counter on display. There are also rows upon rows of iridescent bakery boxes with the words “Bite Me NYC” on them. This is the same message of the neon sign on the wall of the bakery as well.
There’s no glass covering the pastries, so you can really see what you’re getting. I’d never seen anything like it. You can also see into the bakery’s kitchen, and can watch the bakers as they make all of the different pastries, which is pretty cool.
They have an outrageously unique menu of sweet and savory croissants, doughnuts, cruffins, and the new current menu item, soft serve ice cream. One of the ice cream flavors is croissant butter! They actually use the butter that is used in their croissants in their ice cream. They also place a slice of their extra buttery croissant that’s sugared on each order.
The menu items are not always the same throughout the year. Most of their items change often with the seasons or events that are going on.
I ordered the Raspberry, Tarragon and White Chocolate Croissant. It’s a red bi-color croissant with raspberry and tarragon jam folded into white chocolate creme patisserie. Then on top, there are raspberry marshmallows and chocolate decor.
Omg! This was one of the absolute best croissant I have ever had! It is definitely equivalent to the croissants I had in Paris.
They’re located in the LES (Lower East Side for the non New Yorkers. Lol) on Rivington St between Norfolk & Essex.
Whenever you’re in the area, stop by Supermoon Bakehouse. It’s definitely a must!
