Home Alone Apple Pear Pie

Spread the love

I just had to use my son’s favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone to bake this Pear and Apple Pie. He loves it so much that we watch it year round. Can you imagine listening to “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” in July? Lol.

Start with making the pie crust. Divide the dough into thirds. Wrap 2/3 of the dough and place into the refrigerator overnight. Roll out the third piece that is left.

I used special cookie cutters from Bakers Street Cutters for the faces of “Kevin” and “The Robbers.” Use these Cutters to cut each face out.

Then, I used 2 inch Christmas Tree and a house cookie cutters from JB Cookie Cutters to cut out the shapes that go around the pie. Place the cutouts on a cookie sheet and freeze overnight.

The next day divide the refrigerated dough in half and roll out one half of the dough. Place into a pie pan. Set aside. Then peel, core and slice the apples and pears. Place in a mixing bowl with sugar, spices, lemon juice, and flour. Stir, then add to the pie dish. And butter on top.

Roll out the second half. Place on top of the fruit and seal. Place the 3 characters on top. Place the tree and house cutouts all around there Pie.

Bake pie in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 50 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on a wire rack. Done!

“Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animal!”

Home Alone Apple Pear Pie

Ingredients

Crust

  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 sticks butter
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 9-10 tbsp ice water

Filling

  • 2 pears, peeled, cored and slices
  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour

Instructions

Dough

  • Combine flour, butter, shortening, salt in a food processor. Pour in water until dough comes together. Divide into 3 disks. Place 2 disks into the refrigerator overnight. Roll out the last disk. Use cookie cutters to cut out faces, trees, and houses. Place on a cookie sheet and into the freezer over night.
The next day, roll out a second disk and place into a pie pan.

Pie

  • Combine apples, pears, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, spices and 2 tbsp of flour. Mix and pour into pie pan.  Add butter on top. Roll out last disk, place on top of filling and seal the edges.
Make an egg wash of one egg and a tsp of water.  Use this as a "glue" for the dough cut outs. Place faces on top of the crust.  Place trees and houses cutouts around the edges alternating between the two.  Brush with remaining egg wash.  Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 50 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on a wire rack.
