Baking has always been apart of my life. My grandmother and great-grandmother were both amazing bakers who made delicious Southern Soul Food desserts. My great-grandmother was a pasty cook at a restaurant in Florida. My grandmother wasn’t a baker by profession, but was an amazing baker as well and always did the baking for holidays and celebrations.
Pound cake is definitely a soul food classic that my grandmother made extremely well. It was always one of out favorites.
Just like them, I make a lot of cake recipes from scratch, but I also really love boxed cake mixes. And
Duncan Hines makes amazing cake mixes! They also offer many other sweet treats mixes like brownies, cookies and mug cakes too.
There are so many different flavors of cake mixes to choose from. I used their Perfectly Moist Class White Cake Mix to make my Pecan Praline Pound Cake.

How to Make The Cake:

And it’s simple to make. To a mixing bowl, add cake mix, flour and baking powder, then eggs whites, sour cream, vegetable oil and vanilla extract. I added extra flour to give the cake a more pound cake like texture. And the baking powder is for the extra added flour.
Beat until smooth. Make the pecan filling by adding brown sugar, cinnamon and pecans to a bowl and mix. Add half of the batter to a bundt pan. Sprinkle on the mixture, then top with remaining batter. You can swirl the batter at this point with a knife if desired. I decided to leave the pecan mixture as a straight line.
Bake for 35-40 minutes then cool. Add the praline sauce on top, which consists of butter, brown sugar, milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and pecans. So good!
This is one cake you’ll want to make!

  1. I’m wondering if I could sub butter for oil?

    1. Hi! You definitely can. I use oil because it makes cakes more moist, but definitely go with butter if you prefer it 🙂
