Apple Gallette

Spread the love

I’ve been making apple tarts for years. My mom always has me make her one on her birthday. A Gallette is basically a pie with the pie tin underneath. It only has a bottom crust with the edges turned up and around it. When it’s baked, it looks so pretty and has a great presentation.

Simply use your favorite pie crust dough or use pre made refrigerated dough. Roll it out into a circle, sprinkle with 2 Tbsp of sugar, and put it to the side until you prepare the apples.

Peel and core 3 apples. For this Gallette, I just cored the apples. I left the peel on for the presentation. Thinly slice the apples and arrange them on the pie dough it a pattern or just place them down to fill the center. Leave about 2 inches of the crust exposed around the sides. Sprinkle the apples with the remaining granulated sugar. Add the cinnamon and nutmeg. Fold up the edges of the crust all around. Brush the crust with a beaten egg, then sprinkle on the Turbinado sugar. Turbinado sugar is the brownish colored sugar in the raw. The sugar Crystals are slightly larger than granulated sugar crystals. It gives the crust a pretty look and adds a little crunch to it. Bake it a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until browned. Cool on a wire rack and serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
