Chocolate Hazelnut Cake

This Chocolate Hazelnut Cake was perfect for National Chocolate Cake Day this year!

A moist chocolate cake layer topped with a Nutella chocolate buttercream with Ferrero Roche clusters to finish it off.

This cake is just what you need for your chocolate fix! And it’s so simple to make.

What can be better that Nutella and chocolate?!

Cake:

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup flour

1/4 cup + 2 tbsp dark cocoa

3/4 tsp baking powder

3/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 egg

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp vanilla

1/4 cup boiling water

Frosting:

4 tbsp butter, softened

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/3 cup Nutella

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

2 tbsp heavy cream

1/2 tsp vanilla

Ferrero Roche Clusters to decorate

Pre-Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour one 8-inch round baking pan.
Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of stand mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

Mix all ingredients for the frosting in a standing mixer. Spread evenly on the cooled cake. Top with Ferrero Roche clusters in a circled pattern.
