Foodtography School Student Spotlight

Spread the love
Many people feel that one of the hardest things to style and shoot is a cocktail. I definitely felt the same way in the beginning. I would just place a glass filled with a drink down and snap a picture.
It took time and a lot of studying cocktail pictures until I discovered my own style and great ways to make a cocktail look amazing.
Recently, Foodtography School featured me on their page and asked that I do a styling video for their Instagram Stories.
You can watch that styling session Here:

A few tips that I mentioned were:
1- Use Nice Glasses:
I really love using textured vintage looking glasses in pictures. They give your cocktail a little personality and makes them stand out.
2- I use Fake Ice Cubes in the cocktail:
I was tired of my cocktail turning into a puddled mess halfway through a shoot. The garnishes would be floating on top and would look terrible. The fake ice cubes hold everything in place, and you can shoot for as long as you want to. Nothing is melting and nothing is moving. You can also use real ice cubes on top of your drink of you want ice to be shown.
3- Layer your Glasses:
I like to layer glasses so they don’t look too flat in a picture. I often use vintages plates and trays that I get from eBay to place under one or more glasses. I also use painted wood boards and wood cutting boards.
3- Style your Cocktails in 3’s:
A picture looks better with an odd number of subjects. So if I only have 2 cocktails in a shoot, I’ll add a third glass of ice and/or garnishes
4- Add Props to your Scene:
Use the garnishes and the ingredients in your cocktail as props. Place sliced lemons on a plate or cutting board in the background. Add the cocktail shaker. Add the liquor bottle. Anything that’s apart of the cocktail.
5- Take multiple shoots so you will have a lot of options:
And so that you can use different shots at later times. There’s no need to only post new pictures and recipes daily. Use different shots from the same shoot throughout your feed.
I hope these tips helped. If you have any more questions, you can reach me at Peaches 2 Peaches on Instagram!
