Have You Tried Food Compositions Before?

2021 has brought about so many new food photography challenges so far. They really do give us an opportunity to try new techniques or improve on compositions that we’ve tried before.
This capture uses “Analogous Colors.” Analogous Colors are a group of 3 similar colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.
So, since it’s still citrus season, for this shot, I made 3 cocktails using 3 different types of oranges that have different shades. The blood orange, which is an orange-red, the clementine, which is a light-bright orange, and the cara cara which is pink-orange. Putting them all in the same capture shows how beautifully they work together.
And these cocktails are easy to put together. There’s no real recipe. You can tailor them to how you want them.
For each one I just squeezed the juice out of each orange, strained them and added each to 3 different glasses. Add any type of spirit to them. Vodka, gin, bourbon, rum, any will work. Then add a little simple syrup or sugar for sweetness. Top them with some club soda and add a herb for a garish. Easy and refreshing!
