Chocolate Swirl Cake

Spread the love

I’ve been seeing a bunch of these watercolor swirl effect on cakes all over Instagram lately on pages like, Katamelan_Homebakery. She has a video of the technique on her feed. Definitely watch it!

I love the effect of it. It’s gorgeous! So, I wanted to give it a try too. I made a Chocolate Swirl Cake.

I was a little intimidated by it at first. I know once you start it, you can’t stop and re-do anything if you make a mistake. But, I realized that you can touch it up and go back over some of the swirls.

I started by baking my chocolate cake recipe and frosting it with chocolate frosting. You can get the recipe here.

Then, after the cake was completely frosted, I took some vanilla frosting and added it to the top 1/4 of the cake with a spatula. Wipe the spatula clean. Then, you take the spatula and make downward strokes all the way around the cake so you are making swirls and mixing the chocolate and vanilla into each other slightly.

The effects are beautiful. It makes any cake breathtaking. Definitely give it a try!
