Blood Orange Passion Cocktail

Spread the love
It’s February! And we’ve just entered the month of love. So, let’s start this month off with a love-ly easy Valentine’s Day cocktail that I call, Blood Orange Passion Cocktail!

What is in the Blood Orange Passion Cocktail?

This love filled cocktail is filled with fresh Blood orange juice, lime juice, gin, grand Marnier, simple syrup and a splash of club soda.

What are Blood Oranges?

Blood oranges are a winter fruit and are in season in most areas between January and April. Though there are areas where they can still be found until around May. They have a crimson, almost blood-colored flesh. Blood oranges have a unique flavor compared to other oranges. They have a raspberry like flavor in addition to the usual citrus notes.

How is the Blood Orange Passion Cocktail made?

Squeeze the juice of a blood orange into a shaker. Add lime juice, gin, Grand Marnier and simple syrup. Add ice and shake until incorporated and the cocktail is chilled. Pour into a coup glass and add a splash of club soda. Garnish with a dried blood orange slice and rose buds.

Tips for making the Blood Orange Passion Cocktail:

•The blood orange gives the cocktail the beautiful bright crimson red color. But in terms of taste, any other orange will work as well.
•If you need a substitution for the grand Marnier, Cointreau will work too.
•Simple syrup can be bought, but if you want to make it yourself, I’m a pot combine and equal amount of sugar and water (1/2 cup of each). Cook the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cool completely.
•Thinly sliced fresh blood oranges will be a great garnish as well if you can not get dried slices.
This is the cocktail to start your Valentine’s Day off right!
