These spooky festive brownies are the perfect dessert for Halloween!

At every Halloween party, we always had brownies. There’s something about this chocolate treat that’s perfect for haunted festivities. These Dragon Eye Brownies are so easy to make and perfect for your All Hallows’ Eve celebration.

How do brownies differ from chocolate cake?

Chocolate cake is light, airy, and refined in texture. Brownies thicker, denser, and chewier than a cake. They don’t contain any leaving agents like baking powder to make them rise unlike cakes.

What is used to make the dragon eye shape for the brownies?

The method to making the shape for these brownies is very simple. I’m not using any tools to carve difficult shapes into the chocolate. To make the dragon eye shape, I use a silicon mold. The mold was purchased from a shop on Etsy. Etsy has so many shops that sell silicon mold that bakers use regularly for decorating cakes, cookies, pies, etc.

How are the Dragon Eye Brownies put together?

Start with baking your favorite brownie recipe from scratch, like this one, or a great box brownie mix are just fine too.

Take a Halloween silicon mold and cut each brownie to fit. Set them aside.

Melt chocolate black candy melts in a microwave safe bowl with vegetable oil for about 30 seconds, but no more than one minute. When they are melted, they will not look melted. They will still look whole, but very glossy or shiny. Begin to stir the chocolates until they are melted and the mixture is smooth.

Spoon 3-5 tablespoons of the chocolate into the mold, depending on the size of your mold. Add a brownie and push the brownie to the center of the mold. Cover the brownie with additional chocolate until the mold is completely filled. Let the brownies firm up in the refrigerator. Gently remove them from the mold and paint the eyes green with food gel.

Commonly Asked Questions:

Can you use any sized silicon mold for the brownies?

Yes, you can use any size mold. You just have to cut the brownies slightly smaller so that they fit inside of the mold.

Can you use regular chocolate instead of candy melts for the brownies?

Yes, you can use a good quality chocolate instead of chocolate candy melts. Just be sure not to over heat them when melting. And also to make sure that the brownies are fully firm before removing them from the mold.

Can you use a plastic mold for the brownies?

I would recommend only using a silicone mold. Silicon molds can bend and be removed from the brownie easily.
