Spread the love
I am so not ready for pumpkin season yet…. at all. Lol! So, I’m still enjoying all the Summer drinks I can! This Grapefruit Gin Spritz is one great Summer drink. Gin, fresh grapefruit and limes juices topped with bubbly Prosecco. It’s Summer in a glass!

What Gin Goes Best With Grapefruit?

You can use any good quality gin for this cocktail. I decided to use Empress Gin. Empress gin has a blue color and when it’s combined with citrus, the gin turns a beautiful shade of purple and pink. It went perfect with the freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice.

What ingredients are needed for this Grapefruit Gin Spritz?

To make the cocktail, I used a combination of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and Prosecco. Simple syrup can be bought in many supermarkets and liquor stores. You can also make it yourself by combining equal amounts of sugar in water. 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of water. This will make more than you will need for one cocktail, but the extras can be saved in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

What is used to top the Grapefruit Gin Spritz?

Prosecco is used to top the cocktail and give it a bit of “bubbly.” Prosecco is a light-bodied, vibrant, fresh, highly aromatic and crisp sparkling white wine from Italy.

How does Prosecco differ from champagne?

It differs from champagne because champagne requires a traditional method of carbonation in which the wine sparkles while it’s bottled. Prosecco, on the other hand, carbonates in stainless steel vats, a less time and money-intensive process.

How is the Grapefruit Gin Spritz put together?

To make the cocktail, start with a large wine glass. I love the look of a balloon red wine glass. It’s slightly larger than a regular red wine glass and it fits the cocktail perfectly. Add ice to the glass. Pour in the grapefruit and lime juices, the simple syrup and leave the gin for last. When The Empress gin combines with the citrus juices, it turns the top of the cocktail a purple/pink hue. Then, top with the Prosecco to finish it.

Commonly Asked Questions:

Do you have to use Prosecco to top the cocktail?

If you don’t want to use Prosecco, you can use club soda or tonic water. You want something bubbly to top the cocktail.

Can you use a cocktail shaker to make the drink?

Yes, you can use a shaker. Just combine all of the ingredients except the Prosecco in the shaker with ice. Shake until mixed and pour the cocktail into the ice filled wine glass, then top the cocktail with Prosecco.

Do you have to use simple syrup?

Simple syrup only adds some sweetness to the cocktail. If you don’t like your drinks sweetened, then you can leave it out. You can also use a little Cointreau or Grand Marnier.
